Aluminium Windows in Cumbria – Case Study
A distinctive installation of aluminium windows in Cumbria, complemented with matching Heritage-style doors. Set in a small village near Kirkby Stephen, this traditional stone property now benefits from the authentic steel-look design of the Alitherm Heritage system in a contemporary RAL 7016 Grey finish.
Working within the original structure and newly built openings, our aluminium windows are set into old and new stone surrounds and seamlessly integrate with the building. Modern aluminium glazing with the timeless styling of period metal windows.
Alitherm Heritage Windows and Doors
This project showcases 20 aluminium windows and 5 aluminium doors, all designed using the Alitherm Heritage system — the UK’s leading steel-inspired glazing solution.
Alitherm windows and doors all come with premium-grade aluminium, finished with durable powder coating to Qualicoat standards. All profiles come with a polyamide thermal break, high-specification insulated glass units, safety glass in low level windows and all doors. Durable premium and stylish door and window handles, finish off each product. We think there is no better aluminium system replicating the timeless style of traditional steel.
Why Choose Alitherm Heritage?
Alitherm Heritage remains the UK’s best-selling steel-look aluminium system, trusted for its authentic detailing, slim profiles, and proven durability. With options for windows, doors, and internal screens such as Smarts Aluspace, it provides the ideal solution for homeowners wanting Art-Deco, industrial, or heritage-inspired glazing without compromising on energy efficiency or security.
Aluminium Windows in a Grey Finish
Black is one of the most popular colours for this style of home. However, our customer chose the contemporary RAL 7016 Grey to provide a bold contrast against the natural Cumbria stone. The end result of grey against cream looks outstanding.
Window designs included top-hung outward-opening configurations for the larger, contemporary apertures and a combination of side-hung casements with fixed panes for the more classically styled areas of the home. First floor side hung windows also come with fire-escape hinges.
Thanks to the unique architecture, these steel inspired aluminium windows in Cumbria have openings staggered across multiple levels, adding visual interest and depth to the stone façade. A tall, fixed picture window installed into the stairwell provides masses of natural light into the heart of the property.
Each unit is glazed with 28mm insulated glass units, incorporating a soft-coat low-emissivity coating, argon gas fill, and warm-edge spacer bars. Safety glass was used throughout, and all frames sit neatly within the original stone surrounds.
Our steel look doors replicate the proportions and style of traditional metal doors while offering shorter lead times, greater energy efficiency, and a more cost-effective solution. Doors are glazed with toughened safety glass, having a soft-coat low-emissivity coating, warm edge spacer bars and argon gas fill.
Heritage Style Aluminium Doors
At the front of the property, an imposing entrance screen combines a single Alitherm Heritage door with matching side panels and a steel-look toplight. Mullions and transoms run consistently through the horizontals. Coupled frames also have similar sightlines on the vertical elements, dividing the aluminium entrance screen into twelve modules.
Every detail is colour-matched in RAL 7016 Grey, including the door handle and hinges, creating a matching and architectural-quality throughout.
Around the ground floor are a selection of single doors with side panels. These all incorporate a top-hung opening vent in the upper module to provide natural ventilation. As with the windows, all doors come with premium multipoint locking systems, high-security key cylinders, and toughened safety glass.
Precision Window Installers in Cumbria and Nationwide
This installation of aluminium windows in Cumbria required careful planning and expertise. All windows were fitted directly into the original stonework and traditional stone cills, with face-drained systems ensuring proper performance without the need for additional aluminium cills.
Our professional survey team coordinated closely with the supplier to ensure timely delivery, while our installers worked with precision on site. The result is a project completed to the highest standard, with a delighted customer enjoying the perfect combination of heritage style and modern aluminium performance.
Given the stonework and its uneven surface, even the mastic sealing around the perimeter frame and structure has to be carefully applied.
